Forwarding your number to Cleo

Phone & calls5 min readUpdated 2 July 2026

Cleo answers calls through a forwarding rule on your existing number. You keep your own number — you only decide when Cleo picks up: always, on no answer, or outside opening hours.

Before you start: make sure your Cleo number is ready. You'll find it under Settings → Phone.

Choose when Cleo answers

There are three forwarding variants. Most offices start with "on no answer" and switch to "always" later.

On no answerCleo answers after a configurable number of seconds (default 15).
Outside opening hoursCleo answers outside the hours you set.
AlwaysCleo is your first line and transfers where needed.

Set up the forwarding

1
Copy your Cleo number
Go to Settings → Phone and copy the number Cleo has ready for your office.
2
Activate the forwarding with your carrier
With most carriers this works with a code. For "on no answer" you'd dial, for example:
**61*your-cleo-number#
See your carrier's guide for the exact code — the Phone numbers page lists the codes per carrier with copy buttons. Can't figure it out? Ask support.
3
Test with a trial call
Call your own number and let it ring. If Cleo answers, you'll see the call right away in your overview under Call history.

Common problems

Cleo doesn't answer
Check that the forwarding code is activated (call your number from another phone) and that your Cleo number has status "active".
Callers hear two greetings
Your voicemail is probably still on. Disable it with your carrier so Cleo is the only one answering.
